Phyllis Clinton - 1927 to 2007The hospital ward was quiet in the early hours of a May morning this year. The dawn choristers had commenced pouring forth their sweet melodies from the tree tops nearby, as if joining us symbolically in saluting and bidding farewell to a very unique lady whose life was sadly, gently ebbing to its close. The demise of Phyllis Clinton has been deeply felt by us all. She bore her long illness with dignity and courage, a consoling factor to her devoted husband Brendan, daughter Barbara, son Damien, daughter in law Rita and grandson Michael. Her many achievements with Quarry Players have been well recorded, especially by our group President Michael Kearney in his fine eulogy at the requiem ceremony. A touch of poignancy was added to the occasion when the cortege halted for a few moments outside the Belltable Arts Centre with which she had associations for many years. Members of Quarry Players formed a guard of honour escorting the hearse to St. Joseph's Church. We will always have cherished memories of Phyllis, her generosity of spirit, her devoted service and she was a very sincere friend for over thirty years. Once again we say "Thank You Phyllis, you will always be in our thoughts". May she rest in peace. JG The piece above appeared in the programme for Dolly West's Kitchen in 2008, and was written by John Gibbons. Phyllis was a member of the group since 1975, and was involved in every production in some capacity. The credits below show the parts she played, but the part she played in administering the finances of the group with her husband Brendan is impossible to quantify. Her final attendance at our productions was to Translations in 2006 and there are some pictures in the production page of her visit with her husband and friends. |
